Attendance Allowance Contact Number and How to Get Help
Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people in Great Britain who have a disability or health condition that means they need extra help with daily living. It is intended for those who have reached State Pension age and require support because of their care needs. If you want to claim Attendance Allowance or need assistance with your claim, there are specific ways to get help and contact the relevant department.

How to Apply for Attendance Allowance
You can apply for Attendance Allowance in one of the following ways:
- Online: You can start your claim immediately by applying online. If your claim is successful, it will start from the date you make the application.
- By post: You can print and complete the Attendance Allowance claim form and post it to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) at the following address:
Freepost DWP Attendance Allowance
When posting, do not write anything else on the envelope. You do not need to add a stamp or postcode. The form includes notes to help you complete it.
If you request a form by phone, your claim will start from the date of your call, provided you return the completed form within six weeks of that call. If you post the form yourself, your claim starts on the date the DWP receives it.
Information You Will Need to Provide
When applying, have the following details ready:
- Your National Insurance number
- Your current address and contact details
- Details about your disability or health condition that requires extra help
- Information about your GP surgery or medical centre
- If applicable, details of any care home, hospital, or hospice where you are staying
After You Apply
Once your claim is received, you should get a letter or text within about three weeks explaining when you can expect a decision. When the DWP makes a decision, they will send a letter with the outcome and, if awarded, details of your payment schedule.
If You Disagree with a Decision
If you think the decision about your Attendance Allowance claim is wrong, you can ask the DWP to reconsider it through a process called mandatory reconsideration.
Note for People in Scotland
If you live in Scotland, Attendance Allowance is not available. Instead, you need to apply for Pension Age Disability Payment, which serves a similar purpose but is administered by the Scottish Government.
