What to Do if You’ve Sent a V62 Form but Your Logbook (V5C) Hasn’t Arrived

If you’ve applied for a vehicle registration certificate (commonly called a logbook or V5C) using form V62 and haven’t received the document, it’s understandable to be concerned. The V62 is used when you don’t have a V5C or need to register as the vehicle’s keeper for the first time. This process is handled by the DVLA in Great Britain.

Understanding the V62 Application Process

The V62 form is a paper application that must be completed and posted to the DVLA. It cannot be submitted online or electronically. Once the DVLA receives your form and fee (if applicable), they process your request and send the V5C to the address on the form.

If you already have a V5C and only need a replacement without any changes, you can apply online or by phone, which is usually quicker and costs £25.

Why Your V5C Might Be Delayed

  • Processing times: After posting your V62, it may take several weeks for the DVLA to process your application and send the V5C.
  • Postal delays: Sometimes, postal services or delivery issues can delay receipt of your logbook.
  • Incorrect or incomplete details: If the V62 form was filled incorrectly or missing information, this can cause delays.
  • Additional checks: The DVLA may need to verify certain details before issuing a V5C, which can extend the timeframe.

What to Do If Your V5C Has Not Arrived

  1. Wait at least two weeks from the date you posted the V62 form before contacting the DVLA, as the process can take time.
  2. If after two weeks you still have not received your logbook, contact the DVLA to check the status of your application.
  3. If six weeks have passed since your application and you have not received your V5C or contacted the DVLA, you may be required to pay a £25 fee to get a replacement logbook issued.

Remember, the DVLA will send the V5C to the address you provided on the V62 form, so ensure this address was correct and up to date.

Additional Notes

  • If you need to change any details on the V5C or are not yet registered as the keeper, you must use the V62 form and apply by post.
  • If you already have a V5C and only need a replacement without changes, applying online or by phone is faster and avoids postal delays.
  • You can tax your vehicle at the same time as applying for the V5C if you need to.
